![]() Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council (CTHRC) The Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council (CTHRC) is one of 33 National Sector Councils supported by Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC). The CTHRC works to improve the quality of the Canadian tourism workforce by addressing labour market issues and supporting the growth of a professional Canadian tourism sector. The CTHRC brings together tourism businesses, labour unions, industry associations, educators, and governments to coordinate human resource development activities in support of a globally competitive and sustainable Canadian tourism sector. Regarded as an exemplary council by HRSDC, the CTHRC is a leader in groundbreaking work in the area of temporary foreign workers, foreign credential recognition, and the comprehensive suite of emerit Professional Certification and Designation programs. The CTHRC operates through a network of Tourism Human Resource Organizations that are members of the council and represent the tourism sector in each province and territory across Canada. As Ontario’s Tourism Sector Council and Human Resource Organization, OTEC is the partner and exclusive representative of the CTHRC in the province. OTEC’s President & CEO is a Board member and represents the interests of Ontario’s tourism and hospitality industry at national sector council meetings. As CTHRC’s representative, OTEC is Ontario’s certifying body for the entire range of emerit Professional Certification and Designation programs. The programs recognize a set of National Occupational Standards and are the premier customer service and human resources management training source for a wide range of industry sectors. Additionally, OTEC supports local economies through the provision of business planning tools, labour market information, and research reports for the tourism sector. Working with key stakeholders from industry, education, government, and labour on collaborative projects OTEC and its provincial and territorial counterparts work with the CTHRC to provide networked delivery models that facilitate a practical perspective on tourism sector growth.
