Hiring: Manager, Marketing and Communications

OTEC, an independent, entrepreneurial, not for profit, training, consulting, and workforce development organization serving the tourism, hospitality and broader service sectors, is seeking a Manager, Marketing and Communications. If your strengths are in corporate and partner B2B communications and marketing, including print, digital and social media, this dynamic position presents an opportunity for you to unleash your potential and make your mark by elevating OTEC’s brand and social impact with stakeholders and partners.

Your expertise will strengthen OTEC’s external and online presence and reach by creating and managing corporate and project marketing initiatives and outreach campaigns, corporate communications, collateral materials and digital marketing. You will provide communications and messaging support to our project managers for our ongoing and future projects in the workforce innovation and HR technology space and will manage our day-to-day marcom activities including our content calendar, social media channels, website content and analytics plus maintain our lead generation through Google AdWords. This position will also provide a project management opportunity to work with our senior leadership team on our digital strategy, redesigning, rolling-out and implementing the design and content strategy for the website and the newsletter, OTEC Connect.

Position Profile:
This position is responsible for the oversight of marketing, communications and social/digital media activities.

Corporate and Partner Communications and Marketing
  • Create and maintain corporate communications calendar;
  • Oversee marketing campaigns and communication activities (both print and digital);
  • Create and edit copy for corporate and project marketing materials (i.e., presentations, blogs, case studies, articles for publications, website content, promotional materials, press releases);
  • Provide project communications and marketing support for Tourism SkillsNet Ontario and Project Integrate;
  • Maintain and grow corporate and project communications networks and relationships; with communications colleagues at partner organizations to align strategies, share content and plans and maximize opportunities;
  • Issue news releases or communications to stakeholders and, as required, to tourism industry or other media contacts;
  • Oversee the ongoing development of partner toolkits and other collateral materials to support projects including brochure development, messaging, social media and branding guidelines and templates;
  • Conduct marketing research and share information to internal partners;
  • Develop and manage project plans and coordinate Board of Director reports and communications;
  • Develop the strategy for the OTEC newsletter relaunch and oversee the implementation, roll-out and ongoing distribution including the content and quarterly distribution;
  • Work directly with OTEC’s graphic designer to produce all marketing and communications materials based on project timelines;
  • Research and pitch OTEC’s thought leaders to relevant conferences and events for speaking opportunties, panel discussions and other platforms to elevate OTEC’s brand presence in key sectors;
  • Provide corporate communications support to the President & CEO, writing reports, proposals or presentations or other duties as required;
  • Assist with training sessions and client events including board meetings, luncheons and events.
Digital and Social Media Marketing
  • Create and maintain a social media content calendar internally and with industry partners;
  • Expand and maintain social media activities including Blogs, Twitter and LinkedIn, and be responsible for posting on OTEC’s social media sites (LinkedIn and Twitter);
  • Work with senior leadership to develop a new OTEC website design and project manage all elements of the development and roll-out including selecting and managing the website development partner;
  • Oversee the ongoing management of the website, update content, track analytics and strengthen website search engine optimization capabilities including Google AdWords;
  • Create lead generation mechanisms through the OTEC website and newsletter through case studies, blogs and other tools;
  • Employ business savvy technical skills (marketing, technology and design);
  • Partner with the Business Development team to ensure distribution lists in Salesforce are continuously updated and appropriately tagged;
Desired Skills & Experience
  • Corporate communications and media relations experience is ideal;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and attention to detail;
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, entreprenurial environment with multiple project deadlines;
  • Highly organized and a self-starter with strong multi-tasking, prioitizing and project management capabilities;
  • Demonstrated competency with corporate communications, marketing, digital and social media;
  • The ability to work in both print and digital environments;
  • In-depth knowledge of SEO, keyword research and Google analytics and AdWords and experience updating and managing website content
  • Understanding of graphic design (both digital & print) and print production is an asset;
  • Expertise in multiple social media platforms especially LinkedIn and Twitter;
  • Ability to work effectively with other team members as well as function independently;
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint – experience in Wrike (project management tool) an asset.
Ideal Candidate:
  • The successful candidate will have three to five years of similar work experience in corporate communications, marketing, digital and social media. Preference will be given to those candidates with marketing or communications experience in tourism businesses or destinations; tourism and hospitality workforce development services; business to business marketing for service sector skills training and development or H.R. technology.
  • Graduate or post-graduate of a tourism marketing, public relations, new media, advertising, communications, or business degree/diploma from a university or college;
  • Tourism destination management or workforce development experience is an asset, as is experience in a business to business sector communications role.
