As Design and Evaluation Senior Project Manager, Jane contributes to managing the execution of projects within the Tourism SkillsNet Ontario portfolio as well as managing the operationalization of program evaluation strategies. This includes working closely with OTEC project teams and partners to ensure projects continue to contribute to high quality workforce development solutions.
Dr. Jane Rowan is an anthropologist specializing in culture, tourism and development. She has worked globally in the tourism sector with numerous partners including UNESCO, UNWTO and the European Union, as well as social enterprises, local authorities, NGOs, private sector and local communities. Prior to joining OTEC, Jane was responsible for developing, managing and researching projects in tourism and cultural heritage, with a focus on widening participation. Jane also has experience in the UK university sector, teaching tourism management and community leadership as well as coordinating numerous widening participation programs. Jane brings a passion for supporting others to reach their goals and has helped provide socially and culturally appropriate solutions for complex development settings.
Jane holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Culture, Tourism and Development from London Metropolitan University, United Kingdom, having supported the development of intangible cultural heritage trails in West Bengal, India. Jane also holds a Master’s degree in Responsible Tourism Management from the University of Greenwich, London and an Honors Bachelors degree in Anthropology and Global Studies from Wilfred Laurier University, Waterloo.
