Position Summary

OTEC is seeking an experienced Salesforce Data Specialist with proven business analyst and data analyst, and data administration skills. Reporting to the Director, Workforce Strategies, the Salesforce Data Specialist will be OTEC’s in-house data scientist.

The ideal candidate will have experience diving into data, creating reports and dashboards, identifying key insights and how it contributes to evidence driven strategy. As well as designing, developing and administering data management solutions, and developing and implementing data administration policy, standards and models.

They will have a high attention to detail and a logical mindset with strong motivation and passion for technology, numbers and analytics.

Position Duration

This is a 12-month contract position requiring a full-time commitment with opportunity to move to permanent full-time thereafter.

Responsibilities

Business Analysis

  • Identify key data insights, and how it contributes to a evidence driven strategy
  • Think through problems and make actionable recommendations
  • Ensure scope of data requirements of projects meets needs
  • Create data flow diagrams for team to understand implementation and how the final process will look
  • Develop training materials and videos to train employees and project partners on how to use Salesforce
  • Help team members stay efficient and on top of things while keeping an eye on their successes and customer relationships
  • Identify key data points for different stakeholders and projects and make recommendations for tracking
  • May lead, co-ordinate other vendors, partners and project team members
  • Project management, map timelines and milestones effectively and lead other project stakeholders

Database Analysis

  • Design, develop and administer data management solutions using Salesforce
  • Continue Salesforce integration with OTEC’s CRM processes and project environment to ensure both environments are working according to guidelines
  • Continue Salesforce implementation by helping bring new project partners up to speed with the platform and operationalizing data collection within OTEC’s workflows
  • Confer with partners, funders and project managers to collect and document user requirements
  • Design and develop Salesforce architecture for information systems projects making changes to it as needed
  • Design, construct, modify, integrate, implement and test data models
  • Conduct research and provide advice to non-data science professionals, using plain-speak, regarding the selection, application and implementation of database management tools as our internal expert
  • Analyze data and perform data mining analysis within Salesforce

Data Administration

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures throughout the platform implementation life cycle to maximize the efficiency, effectiveness and overall quality of data
  • Develop and implement data administration policy, standards and models
  • Research and document data requirements, data collection and administration policy, data access rules and security
  • Develop policies, procedures and contingency plans to minimize the effects of security breaches
  • Confer with management team, team members and partners to identify and document requirements, assess physical and technical security risks to data and software and hardware
  • Conduct research and provide advice to partners and team regarding the collection, availability, security and suitability of data
  • Foster a culture of data privacy
  • Develop policies and procedures for network and/or Internet database access and usage and for the backup and recovery of data
  • Create and maintain and share a data dictionary
  • Write scripts related to stored procedures and triggers
  • Conduct audits to assess quality assurance practices, data integrity and compliance of data collection practices
  • May co-ordinate teams of project managers in the development and implementation of data policies, standards and models.
  • Build reports for stakeholders for project managers and senior team
  • Identify opportunities to customize and optimize Salesforce for colleagues/different departments
  • Create dashboards (e.g. OTEC CRM and client/partner projects) for management and ensure continually meets needs
  • Identify opportunities for automation

Competencies & Skills

  • College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science or other tertiary education with 3+ years’ work experience.
  • 3+ years of Salesforce or similar CRM experience
  • Highly self-motivated and directed
  • Strong technical documentation skills
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Ability to conduct research into database issues, standards, and products as required.
  • Organized with attention to detail
  • Strong customer service orientation and attitude
  • Flexible, adaptable and can establish good working relationships with colleagues, partners and clients
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, problem solve and to work within deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language
